šThe existing day in June, 2003, "FATBANKROLL" ,a site in Sweden, had interviewed me...

Q. Tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do, how old are you,.?

I'm a Japanese XXXXX(my ocupation). I'm XX years old. I live in XXXXXX City, a local city in the west side of Japan.I keep these articles secret in Japan web. But my purpose isn't to hide stubbornly my privacy, it's only to look enigmatic for the visitors. So, it is no problem to introduce me to the people of Sweden.I am a passionate Kraftwerk fan, chasing their sound for over 20 years.I think that there is no band that can compare to them.

Q. I suppose you visited one of the Kraftwerk concerts in Tokyo in December. Could you tell us a little about it?

There were two concerts last December in Japan. One of them was in Tokyo on the 13th, and the other was in Osaka on the 15th. I visited the Osaka oncert. In Tokyo, it was a very big event named "Electraglide".Over 10,000 people gathered in the concert hall of Makuhari-Messe.Many artists appeared and it was an all-night long event. Live stages and DJ stages were performed side by side; Kraftwerk was one of the live stages. They were not the main guests. All artists were the same rank.Although they were famous musicians, I didn't know much about them.I have forgotten their names. I only knew Kraftwerk.

On the other hand, the Osaka concert was held at "Zepp Osaka". It was a small hall and the number of people in the audience was about 2,000.Kraftwerk took the main stand on this event. The 3 opening acts were Tim Deluxe, Squarepusher, Andrew Weatherall. This was not an all-night long event. It started at 4:30p.m. and finished at near 10:00p.m.. There were no seats for this show-it was all standing general admission,so I was able to get closer to the band than I ever have before. But it was impossible to get to the front row because it was very crowded.

The 3 opening acts lasted for about one hour. They suddenly appeared on the dark stage without any introductions. When the stage was lit up, the artist immediately started to play. But at the appearance of Kraftwerk, the direction of the show was very amazing. It was suitable as the main event of this night. At first, very long intro music was played. It lasted for about 7 or 8 minutes long. The audience became a little noisy because it was too long. I began to wonder if Kraftwerk would really appear. But at last the music stopped, and we heard a robot voice making announcements. The audience relaxed and was very pleased.

The Robot voice spoke, "Shukujo, shinshi no minasama,." It means "Ladies and Gentlemen" in English. I had seen a report on the web that a robot voice had been broadcast in a Japan radio program in which they introduced the Tokyo concert. At this time, the robot voice spoke in Japanese as "Please enjoy the night of Electragride!"

When the stage curtain opened, we saw four SONY VAIO sets on the stage. I had previously heard of this setting. The equipment was set up closer together than I had imagined. It was because the stage was narrow.Next, the members walked on stage. I was surprised that they had become older than I had expected. I was quite delighted to see the twenty-something audience cheering so enthusiastically for the fifty-something band members.I was proud because I have been their fan ince over 20 years ago. Their music has kept same tone from old days to current days. Almost of the songs played in this concert were created when the young fans were little children. Some of the young people in the crowd hadnft even been born when the earliest songs were recorded.

I think that the songs and images on the back screen were the same as used in the tour in Europe last autumn. But when they played "Dentaku",the Japanese fans became really excited because this song is a special number for the Japanese. When a picture of the pocket calculator was zooming up on the screen, the fans let out a big shout of joy. We found some Japanese letters in the picture! Kraftwerk used some Japanese text for their visual effects.

It was the second time for me to see Kraftwerk live. The first time was in 1981's Japan concert.I missed the 1998 concert because I couldnft find a ticket. This time, I expected many older fans, who were about the same as me, to gather there. But almost of the audience was younger. I was sad to think that the older fans had stopped being their fans or that they were too older to visit the concert at a place far from their homes.

There was a related episode. While I was reserving the tickets, someone who I didn't know sent me a e-mail. He said," I know you from reading your HP.I live in the same city and I'm the same age as you. Will you visit the concert in Tokyo? It's too difficult to go to such a big event, so far away from our town, with so many people and no seats all night long. This event was planned for a younger audience. It isn't suitable for me. So I thought that I'd ask your opinion, and make my decision based on that."In fact, my opinion was same as him. I was also unable to decide what to do. But later, the concert in Osaka was added, and I could determine my course of action. I thought that there might be more Kraftwerk fans at the Osaka show since they were the headlining band there.

As you know, Kraftwerk hasn't released any new CDs for many years, and they have gone on very few concert tours. So, many fans might think that this Japan tour would be the last time to see live Kraftwerk in Japan. Although casual fans of techno might think of Kraftwerk as just one of many different techno bands, they are the only truly great band for real fans of the original techno jenre. This experience was more like a pivotal ceremony in my life than a simple concert. It was a turning point, dividing different parts of my life. It was a "holy night" for me.

*****The Ticket of the OSAKA CONCERT*****

Q. Are there many Kraftwerk fans in Japan?

Yes, there are. But Kraftwerk isn't known by everybody like other popular musicians. They aren't well known except by the techno music listeners. But, because I don't listen to much music in my daily life, I don't have much information about the current music scene in Japan.I don't know how popular the techno music is, or which techno artists are very popular with young people. I don't know the names of artists who the fans talked about frequently on the techno music BBS on Japan web. So, I can't tell how many Kraftwerk fans there are in Japan.

I have gotten only limited information about Kraftwerk before I started using the Internet. Living in the countryside, I have hardly ever met equally passionate Kraftwerk fans.

Recently, many young people don't even know YMO. In 2001, TBS (Japanese TV) produced a special TV program which demands the removal of landmines from all over the world. They asked Ryuichi Sakamoto to create the campaign song of this program. Then, he called his musician friends to create the song together. For example, David Silvian, Cyndi Lauper, and Brian Eno. Kraftwerk was one of them! They participated in this project. Japanese fans were very surprised and curious about this project. Kraftwerk offered a sound logo of a robot voice reciting "Ze-ro -Land-mine-". This was what we expected.

This song became a popular hit song in Japan. Many people bought the CD. But only few people knew who Kraftwerk are. ‚h think almost all of the listeners thought that the voice was created by Ryuichi Sakmoto. Still more the ex-YMO members, Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi participated to this project. It was the first time that Kraftwerk and YMO jointed! But no one talked much about this wonderful event. I was disappointed. But, maniac Japanese techno fans know undoubtedly Kraftwerk as a great originator of Techno Music. They call Kraftwerk "God of Techno".

Q. Why did you compose the Kraftwerk tribute songs?

My music career is unique. All over the ages, the culture of youth and the music are closely related. But, I was a young who was not interested in music. I thought that I wouldn't need any music. But, one day, my music sensitivity was suddenly coming up to listen to Kraftwerk sound accidentally. It was a travel night in an inn. A friend introduced their sound to me. Since this time, I have changed to a young man who loved music.

This is why I have such a deep respect for Kraftwerk. Because of that my music sensitivity is different from others, I don't listen to any music except for Kraftwerk. It does not mean that I generally like all techno music. Kraftwerk is the only one. Though I can understand the appeal of others' songs, their techno music isn't necessary for me.@

But, as you know, Kraftwerk stopped their activity within a few years since I had known them. Their behavior was very thorough. They have not released a new full album for 17 years, or their first Japan tour was in 1981, then the second was after 17 years ,in 1998.I couldn't think that their activity developed such extremely.

Today, many musician respects Kraftwerk as the originator of electronic music, and much music Kraftwerk- related are created, such as covers, remixes, sampling, etc. I have not listen to them and I couldn't guess how they sound. In the last several years, I've had some occasions to listen to this music. Though the creators say that their music is a tribute to Kraftwerk, I think it wouldn't be fascinating enough for Kraftwerk fans. The Latin cover versions of Senor Coconut are very fantastic and great, but I don't have appeal to the Kraftwerk songs without electrical and mechanical taste.

So, I decided to create my original tribute songs which directly express of Kraftwerk. I hoped that many Kraftwerk fans should know me as a unique fan that has created such real tribute songs. Then, I carried my works on my HP. Technically speaking, I must get their permission, but it is almost impossible for a mere fan to contact them directly. I think they would permit me and would regard as that a very passionate fan would do that.

At creating the songs, I used obscure material that only the fans know. The taste of the music is similar to Kraftwerk music. And I put more rare material that only the passionate fan will be able to find.

Q.Has many people listened to your songs, and have you gotten any feedback/praise/criticism?

I am just an amateur and only a mere fan. I compose music only by way of entertainment.

When I set up my HP in 2000, I put a content that I would present MD;in which uploaded songs were recorded; to ten visitors in order of arrival. Then, I put on my HP ten songs,"BLEND1" to "BLEND10". Seeing this content, 17 people requested to send the MD and I did it. They were glad to listen to my songs, but I was perplexed a little. Their impressions and comments were too earnest. For example, they suggested me some method to get completion as ordinary music works. I looked on my songs as parodies or jokes and I wanted them to laugh to listen to these. Still more all the songs were just DTM of YAMAHA XG. I had considerably compromised to select the tone colors from the XG voice list. Though I had some formal synthesizers, I didn' t dare to use them.

After that, I have added new songs whenever they have been completed. When I had composed about 20 "BLEND"songs, I came to the end of new materials. So I next started to compose my original tribute songs. But I don' t think that there have been many listeners, because the access counter is still low.

Q. Do you compose other music as well, or is it all Kraftwerk-related?

Today, many techno songs are made with the spread of electrical music machines.Even an amateur, can easily create their own techno music. But, I deicided that I would make only Kraftwerk-related music. It is unnecessary that I create my own original techno music because many professional and amateur musicians are composing a lot of techno music. My other techno music won't be so worty to create. To create Kraftwerk tribute songs is my expression of myself as a fan.It is my message to Kraftwerk to know the existence of such a fan.
